Gothikana by RuNyx ARC Review
Gothikana by RuNyx
An unusual girl. An enigmatic man. An ancient castle. What could go wrong?
An outcast her entire life, Corvina Clemm is left adrift after losing her mother. When she receives the admission
letter from the mysterious University of Verenmore, she accepts it as a sign from the universe. The last thing
she expects though is an olden, secluded castle on top of a mountain riddled with secrets, deceit, and death.
An enigma his entire life, Vad Deverell likes being a closed book but knowing exactly everything that happens
in the university. A part-time professor working on his thesis, Vad has been around long enough to know the
dangers the castle possesses. And he knows the moment his paths cross with Corvina, she's dangerous to
everything that he is.
They shouldn't have caught each other's eye. They cannot be. But a chill-inducing century-old mystery forces
them to collide. People have disappeared every five years for over a hundred years, and Corvina is getting clues
to unraveling it all, and Vad needs to keep an eye on her.
And so begins a tale of the mystique, the morbid, the macabre, and a deep love that blossoms in the
unlikeliest of places.

I was born with stories in my veins. As far back as my memories go, story-telling has been a part of my life.
I stumbled upon writing accidentally while going through severe depression. Writing became not just a means of
expressing but also catharsis. Every single character and every single story became precious. It taught me to love, to live,
and most importantly, it made me discover who I was.

Well, this book was a dark delight.
As this book was the first I had read from the author I tried to keep my expectations under control, but it was hard with all of the teasers that she kept giving us.
I was so excited for this book and when I was told I was given an ARC I literally screamed.
What a beautifully written dark tale, full of mystery, suspense, and romance.
I really could not put this book down. It was such an intriguing story that kept me wanting to know what was going to happen next. There were twists and turns at every plot point that just kept your mind working and trying to figure out the mystery. Throughout all this, you get beautiful descriptions of stunning gothic, scenery and references to your favorite horror books, and so much more wonderful macabre elements.
This book is definitely not for the shy reader, it has a lot of scenes that are certainly for adult readers. 😉 Vad is going to steal a lot of readers' hearts.
Let me just say how much I appreciated the trigger/content warning at the beginning of the book. I personally don't have any issue reading about these things but I know a lot of people do so even though this is classed as an adult read it's something that I want to point out.
These triggers include:
- Explicit sexual content 18+
- mentions of suicide, murder, and death
- mentions of mental illness and neglectful parenting,
- mentions of sexual assault and human sacrifice.
- Morally grey hero.
This is a dark thriller and to be honest, I was expecting this content.
The story was very rich and gave me lots of Dracula vibes without the vampires.
I highly recommend this book for lovers of romance, mystery, suspense, and horror.
